Non-Newtonian Fluids aka H20 + Cornstarch

From Scott Beale's Laughing Squid Blog:
You’re likely already familiar with the strange properties of non-Newtonian fluids, such as a mixture of cornstarch and water, whose “flow properties are not described by a single constant value of viscosity.” Depending on how force is applied to such fluids, they will either behave as a liquid or a solid.

This uncanny video on LiveLeak demonstrates what happens when happens when a non-Newtonian fluid is placed on a speaker cone, and an audio signal is applied to it. All hail our new cornstarch tentacle overlords!

Creepy Cornstarch people on a speaker:

They filled a pool with a mixture of cornstarch and water made with a concrete mixer truck. When stress is applied to the liquid it exhibits properties of a solid.
